Zappa: The Yellow Shark - The Dog Breath Variations
Conducted by Matthias Pintscher, the Ensemble Intercontemporain performs The Dog Breath Variations by Frank Zappa. "Yellow Shark" concert performed on 29 septembre 2018 at the Salle des Concerts of the Cité de la Musique in Paris.
The album Yellow Shark, published in 1993, united the orchestrated works of Frank Zappa ("classical" works according to the composer). Drawn from different periods of Zappa's career, the works The Dog Breath Variations/Uncle Meat (aka Dog/Meat) and G-Spot Tornado were re-worked for over 30 years, and finally orchestrated in 1992 for the recording of Yellow Shark by the Ensemble Modern of Frankfurt. Last album published by Zappa before his death one month later, he described Yellow Shark as one of the most gratifying projects of his career, and the best example of his works for orchestra and his orchestral composition.
Dog Breath Variations was initially entitled _Dog Breath in the Year of the Plague (_from the album Uncle Meat, 1969), a song about a car regularly performed and varied by Zappa and his Mothers of Invention, variations which later inspired the various orchestrations, including this current variation.
