Tristan Murail: Mach 2.5 for two Ondes Martenot By Nathalie Forget And Tristan Murail
Composed in 1971 by the Ondes Martenot’s inventor, Tristan Murail.
In Mach 2.5, Murail seeks to materialize the sound of masses moving on two ondes martenot - a monophonic instrument which he created. He achieves this thanks to a wave keyboard’s marching speed and the use of resonant loudspeakers. This work and instrument were revolutionary and shaped much of the design and compositional style of electronic instruments and music that followed.
