Toru Takemitsu: Uninterrupted Rests By Guillaume Coppola
Or, “A song of love"
Born on the 8th October 1930 in Tokyo, Japan, Toru Takemitsu was a mostly autodidactic composer whose legacy largely rests on his fusions of opposites, including east with west, sound with silence and tradition with modernity. This avant-garde work seems like a series of separate chords being played at once. The idea is to emphasise the importance of listening to and appreciating how chords on the piano sound different when they resonate.
