Sergei Rachmaninoff: Twelve Romances Op. 21 By Veronika Dzhioeva and Alexandre Tharaud
A marathon work for solo soprano and piano
The thirty minutes required for the performance of this piece are supposedly exhausting for both the pianist and soprano. Rachmaninoff did not believe the composer ought to make sacrifices of sound for the benefit of the performer! This performance is therefore constantly full of sound and in keeping with the boisterous style of Rachmaninoff’s composition. Listen to the Romantic Russians romances here.
