Robert Schumann: Davidbündlertänze, Op. 6
The Dances of the League of David
Drawing on Polish folk dance as inspiration, Davidbündlertänze (or Dances of the League of David) is a conversation through music on the eve of a German wedding. From an urgent yearning for a kiss to the marital traditional smashing plates, the piece dances between subtlety and vigour. Davidbündlertänze is considered one of Schumann’s significant accomplishments, the work is enshrined within the Romantic canon and is widely perceived as one of the victorious works of that period.
