Olivier Messiaen: Second monode in ¼ tone By Nathalie Forget
The second part of a small unpublished work, composed in 1938 by Messiaen.
As opposed to polyphony, monophony features only one vocal or instrumental voice to play the melody, rather than several. This unpublished piece by the French composer Olivier Messiaen, uses only one ondes martenot. Nonetheless, the wave-style of the ondes martenot suggests polyphonic sounds, even though the piece deliberately rejects this style of composing.
