Marc-Antoine Charpentier: Easter Chant "Victimae paschali laudes" H 13 By Les Arts Florissants
An overwhelming work for organ and choir
The power in this work cannot be understated. Only a cathedral could hold an organ big enough to blast out the chords from Charpentier’s work which commemorates easter. In between these fortissimo sections is a choir who’s relative gentleness provides respite. Being one of the foremost composers of his day, Marc-Antoine Charpentier was never short of big commissions, frequently from the church.
