Marc André : "Riss 1" (Day Seven) conducted by Matthias Pintscher

Duration : 19 minutes

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Ensemble intercontemporain conducted by Matthias Pintscher performs "Riss 1" (Day Seven) by Stefano Gervasoni. Live recording on March 30, 2017 at the Philharmonie de Paris.

Riss 1 depicts the seventh day of creation when God rested. It follows six other works depicting the story of God’s creation of the earth to mark 220 years since Joseph Haydn wrote The Creation, all commissioned by the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Philharmonie de Paris. The mesh of orchestral clashes and runs portray a God dreaming of what his creation might come to be. It is underpinned by a rhythmic swell mimicking the heavy breathing of sleep.
