Henry Purcell: Fantasia Upon One Note, Z.746, by the Benjamin Consort
For five violas
A Baroque work by English composer Henry Purcell, Fantasia upon One Note Z.745—written for five violas in 1680 — is the fourteenth and final fantasia in his broader work, Fantasias and In Nominees. The son of Thomas Purcell, a musician to the King, Henry Purcell continued in his father’s legacy, penning compositions for the Kings and Queens of his age. The Fantasias are among his works written not for the royal ear, but his own pleasure.
