Henry Purcell: Fantasia In E Minor, Z.741, by the Benjamin Consort

For four violas

A Baroque work by English composer Henry Purcell, Fantasia Z.741 in E minor — written for four violas in 1680 — is the tenth of fourteen fantasias in his broader work, Fantasias and In Nominees. Purcell’s work scored coronations and crown demises, celebrating each royal who passed through his relatively brief lifetime of thirty-six years. The Fantasias are among his works written not for the royal ear, but his own pleasure.
