Henry Purcell: Fantasia In C Minor, Z.738, by the Benjamin Consort
For four violas
A Baroque work by English composer Henry Purcell, Fantasia Z.738 in C minor — written for four violas in 1680 — is the seventh of fourteen fantasias in his broader work, Fantasias and In Nominees. A chorister at the Chapel Royal up until his voice broke, the significance of both King and God were markedly evident throughout Purcell’s work. The Fantasias are among his works written not for the royal ear, but his own pleasure.
