Heitor Villa-Lobos: Bachianas Brasileiras No. 7 With Alexis Cardenas On Violin
An orchestral marching fanfare
One of the most important figures in Brazilian and South-American composition, Heitor Villa-Lobos was born on the 5th March 1887 in Rio de Janeiro. The son of a civil servant, Villa-Lobos’s work was much influenced by the changing political and social landscape of Brazil in the early 20th Century. This is a powerful work for orchestra. The unison playing of the string section and the overarching horn parts have a fanfare-like feel and the rhythm is perpetually turning over at marching pace which adds to this sensation.
