György Ligeti: Six Bagatelles For Wind Quintet, By The Ouranos Ensemble
Inspired by the works of Bartók and Stravinsky.
In this work, György Ligeti uses the Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn to build these boisterous bagatelles. He also uses melodies from his previous eleven Musica Ricercata works for piano: the 3rd Allegro con spirito, the 5th Rubato (annotated Lamentoso), the 7th Allegro grazioso, the 8th Presto ruvido, the 9th (in memory of Béla Bartók) Adagio, Mesto and the 10th Molto perennial (annotated Capriccioso). Ligeti recounted that, during a "temporary relaxation of the dictatorship in the communist countries of Eastern Europe in the autumn of 1956,” his six trifles were performed in Budapest.
