György Ligeti: Piano Study No. 2 "Vacuum Strings", By Guillaume Vincent
A study in the tradition of Chopin, Liszt and Debussy, composed in 1985.
Coming from the first book of Piano Studies by Ligeti, this second study is entitled Void Ropes. György Ligeti here refers to the strings of violin, viola and cello, which first come together playing unison fifths. Similar to the Study No. 2 for Piano, the open fifths then dissolve into their respective melodies. Ligeti dedicated this study to the French composer, conductor and teacher Pierre Boulez.
