Gérard Grisey: Prologue For Viola And Electronics By Ieva Sruogyte

An inaugural piece for viola and electronics, composed between April and July 1976. Grisey dedicates this work to violist Gérard Caussé, a performer since its creation in July 1978 at the Darmstadt Festival in Germany.

The Prologue opens the cycle of plays entitled Acoustic Spaces by Gérard Grisey. Melodic, this work proposes a melodic cell on the heights of the harmonic spectrum and around which a kind of spiral works. Prologue gives rise to an impression of hypnosis and heaviness, the intention of which is to detach oneself - which incites one to move away from the original harmonicity. With this melodic dream, Gérard Grisey manages to combine the sound of the viola with the resonators of spectral music.
