Georg Philipp Telemann: Brockes-Passion TWV 5: 1: I. Abendmahl Directed by Raphaël Pichon

The first movement of the Passion depicts the Last Supper

Uncommonly, this "sacred opera" takes its inspiration from all of the gospels as opposed to just one. This reinterpretation by Georg Philipp Telemann is a meticulous expose of the life of Jesus. In this first movement of the Oratorio, the music builds in Baroque form until the words are uttered: "This is my body: come, take and eat. Do this in memory of me", then "This is my blood [...] Drink it to remember me".
