Erik Satie: Gnossienne No. 5 By Guillaume Coppola
A pretty and petite piece
Despite his teachers rather damning indictment of his musical prospects, Satie would go on to contribute a number of avant-garde compositions to the world of music, many of which in collaboration or influenced by key figures including Jean Cocteau and movements of the 20th Century including Surrealism and Dadaism. While simple chords are softly played in the left hand, a moving melody sits above it. With its turns and appoggiaturas, it has many references to renaissance music, though maintains a modern style.
