Georges van Parys : "Coeur de diamant" ( Madame de...)
The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France performs "Coeur de diamant" conducted by Georges van Parys for the film "Madame de...", conducted by Bruno Fontaine. Excerpt from the concert recorded live on 11 January 2019 from the Radio France Auditorium.
For the film The Earrings of Madame de…, from which is taken the work "Cœur de diamant", Georges van Parys shares the music with Oscar Straus, making the most of Max Ophuls's inventiveness, such as the peculiar scene in which Madame, in front of her mirror, thinks aloud, hums, and begins a curious dialogue with the musical accompaniment. The main theme resembles a potpourri, mixing passion with frivolity, tenderness with exuberance, much like the female protagonist who sells again and again her diamond hearts, but is capable of sincerely loving a baron to the grave.
