Angelo Ragazzi: Four Sonatas In G Major Op. 1 No. 8, With Capella Gabetta Conducted By Andrés Gabetta

An eclectic work for harpsichord and strings

As one of the leading Italian composers of his day, Angelo Ragazzi enjoyed a warm reception throughout his home country. However, to his annoyance, he did not achieve the pan-European fame of some of his contemporaries. This work begins with a lilting and evolving melody which carries through for a number of minutes until it is stalled by a lento reprieve. After this, a new melody begins in the same form as before. This repeats four times to mark each Sonata. Listen and see if you think Ragazzi deserved the European fame he never got.
