The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France performs Debussy, Dutilleux and Ravel with Francesco Piemontesi

Ingo Metzmacher conducts the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France performing Debussy's Jeux, the Symphony n°2 by Dutilleux, and the Piano Concerto in G major by Ravel with the pianist Francesco Piemontesi. Concert recorded live on 12 October 2018 at the Radio France Auditorium, in Paris.

Jeux was first performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in 1913, two weeks before the Rite of Spring. A less earthly and lighter work, this ballet depicts a game of tennis with the help of the most subtle of harmonies. A unique occurence, the work is here performed twice, at the beginning of the concert and at the end, so as to enrich our understanding and allow us to better appreciate the intertwining of colors from which the work is woven. Between these two performances lies the rich dialogue of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major, followed by Dutilleux's Symphony no.2 "Le Double", a renewal of the concerto grosso spirit and illustrating furthermore the theme of duality running throughout the concert.
