The Laureates Of The 2017 Lyon Chamber Music Competition In Concert

A fresh wind of quintet music

Opéra, Lyon

The Lyon Chamber Music Competition brings together some of Europe’s foremost chamber musicians who play a huge array of music from across the ages. As such, the Laureate’s concert is a truly special event at which the prizewinners show their supreme skill.

The prize winners this year were The Lumo Quintet from Helsinki; Ensemble Ouranos from Paris and the Monet Quintet from across Germany. Opening with Nielsen’s Wind Quintet, the Laureates of the Lyon Chamber Music Competition glide into Tomasi’s Five Secular and Sacred Dances, Malcolm Arnold’s piratic Three Shanties. Wind Quintet’s by Gilles Silvestrini and Jean Françaix bridge us onto a conclusion with Pēteris Vasks’s Music for a deceased Friend and György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles. From boisterous breezes to gallant gales, prepare to be blown away by these works for wind quintet.
