Despite composing for the same instrument, duet composition is a different and difficult task. Balancing the dynamics of two players requires exact scoring and a symbiotic performing ability from the performers. This concert shows an array of piano duet pieces - some modern, some old. Nonetheless, all pieces require utmost skill by the pianists who execute this task with grace. Opening the concert is one of the masterpieces of duet composing, not least because it is composed by two of the masters of the Impressionist era. 3 Nocturnes L 91 by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel is a glorious piece which displays the best of each composer. Following this is Hora pour deux pianos by François Meïmoun. Finally, Olivier Messiaen’s modern work Visions de l’Amen is heard. Experience these impressive and thoroughly different works for pianos in duet.
