Henry Purcell: Anthems & Fantazias By the Collegium Vocale Gent And Capriccio Stravagante Conducted By Skip Sempé

Rapture & regality with Henry Purcell

Eglise Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile, Paris

A celebration of the Baroque mastery of 17th-century English composer Henry Purcell, the concert opens with one of Purcell’s more notable examples of verse anthem, Rejoice in the Lord alway (The Bell Anthem). The concert continues on its divine lineation through an a number of his anthems and fantasias — drawing inspiration from the psalms — before coming to a close on some of the renowned English composer’s odes to the kings and queens of his time.

Performed by the Collegium Vocale Gent alongside Capriccio Stravagante directed by Skip Sempé, the Capriccio Stravagante  is celebrating their thirtieth anniversary that year. Under the guise of maestro Skip Sempe, allow these interpretations of Purcell take you on a journey beyond into a realm of rapture and regality.

This program was performed on Septembre 26th, 2016 at 8.30pm in Saint-Louis-en-l'Ile's church as part of Festival Terpsichore.
